Valley Center MusicFest & BBQ Cookoff is an official Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event in rural Valley Center, California, about 30 minutes north of San Diego. Approximately 50 teams will travel from the western US to compete for prize money, trophies, points and bragging rights.
BBQ teams will arrive in Valley Center on Friday morning to spend up to 24 hours seasoning, smoking, and grilling their choice cut of meats for competition day on Saturday, June 6th.
Our 2015 Teams will compete for a guaranteed $7,500 of prize money, KCBS points and trophies. If team participation exceeds 50 or more teams, $10,000 in prize money will be awarded.
There is something for everyone at the VCMusicFest & BBQ Cookoff! Featured at the VCMusicFest are 2 oz BBQ tastes for purchase, a vendor alley, live bands on 3 stages, a silent auction, raffle prizes, fun for the kids and a refreshing beer/wine garden including craft brews.
Admission and parking are free.

Silent Auction & Raffle Prizes
There will be a silent auction between noon and 5:00 PM. Hundreds of great items will be up for purchase by the highest bidder including dinner certificates, movie passes, hotel stays along with wine and spa baskets. Raffle tickets will be offered for sale, with an opportunity to win lots of great prizes. Drawings will be held throughout the day. Winners need not be present to win raffle prizes or to be the successful bidder on the silent auction items. Prizes must be claimed within one week of the event.
Competition BBQ Tastings
Yes, you will be able to taste award winning BBQ at the event! Tasting tickets will be available for purchase on Saturday beginning at noon at the main information booth. Prices for 2 oz samples are: 1 ticket for $3, 4 tickets for $10, or 10 tickets for $20. Each ticket is good for one 2 oz sample. Samples are sold while the competition is underway and tastings are not guaranteed to be available all day. This competition BBQ is hot stuff and when it goes, it goes! For your best chance at trying certain meats, we encourage you to come early.
The turn in schedule is as follows:
- Chicken: 12:00 PM
- Pork Ribs: 12:30 PM
- Pork: 1:00 PM
- Brisket: 1:30 PM
Awards will be presented to the winning teams beginning at 5 PM on Stage 3 in the BBQ area. Come cheer for your favorites!
Forms of Payment Accepted
Cash and credit cards will be acceptable forms of payment for purchases of food, drink, silent auction and raffle tickets. An ATM is located inside the Bates Nut Farm country store which will be open during the day for additional shopping. Be sure to get a sample of their famous fudge and buy a pound to take home.
Live Entertainment on Three Stages
If you like music, this is the event for you! With a dozen acts on three stages scattered around the festival, you’re sure to find a band you love! Types of music will include Rock, Country, Americana and Jazz. The award winning Valley Center Middle School and High School Jazz Bands are scheduled to take the main stage in the early afternoon. Don’t miss your opportunity to see these school bands in person. Did you know the MusicFest was created to raise awareness of the school music programs, increase community support and serves as a major fundraiser for the students?
Fun for the Family
The Bates Nut Farm is a 100-acre farm that is open year round and is a delight for children and adults. Visit with mini-donkeys, goats, sheep, llamas, pigs, emus, chickens, peacocks, ducks, geese & more! The animals love visitors, and will eat from your hands. Bags of animal feed can be purchased for 50 cents in the country store. Bring low lawn chairs or a blanket and relax under the shade trees while listening to the bands.
